i caught woody allen and the eddy davis new orleans jazz band at the cafe carlyle last week in new york.  the room is small and the performance is quite intimate.  woody keeps his eyes shut through most all of  the performance.  i am not a huge fan of big band music but there was an exciting vibe and i fell for it.  to see this academy award, and golden globe winning director, screenwriter and actor playing his clarinet for pure pleasure, as he says that that is why he plays, was just a treat for me.  he has been playing the clarinet since the age of 15, and says he is not that good but that he is carried by the band.  it is an extreme joy and powerful feeling to do anything for pure pleasure.  that’s what it’s about. pure pleasure is a wonderful feeling.  i can still hear the clarinet and the band playing…pure pleasure.  seeing woody, at almost 80, performing for pure pleasure and sharing his passion, was as well just pure pleasure for thebestdressup now!

Sounds like you had a wonderful evening – you captured it beautifully! It´s surely very special to see Woody Allen, whose film making I adore very, very much, carried away by the music. Now I´m starting to regret that I let the opportunity to see him perform here in Munich pass by a few years ago – I simply didn´t go because I found the tickets to be overpriced 😉 …a mistake perhaps!

    lucky you! 🙂 he’s an icon in France… 🙂
