RIVER CAFE, LONDON, THE BEST DRESS UPi knew it was about a tradition, about a history.  but how does a tradition begin, a history made?  it has a beginning and it must have time.  last thursday at the River Cafe, i told my dear friend pino, that when in london, a meal at the river cafe is a luvMUST.  the first visit there was during its beginning days, and the driver had such a difficult time finding it.  yet, i knew that i was about to discover a luvFIND.  the river cafe is located in hammersmisth, a quick 15 minute drive from knightsbridge, but then, it was not a recognizable address.  on my second visit, i had to direct the driver!  Ruth Rogers and the late Rose Gray, founded the river cafe in 1987, with a focus on italian cuisine.  it was as close as exquisite could be, and i must say, that with difficulty one could eat that well in italy.  with its minimal decor and focus on seasonal and quality ingredients, it was unlike any other italian restaurant at the time in london.  last year, the river cafe celebrated its 25th year.  it has had much success, and a roster of accomplishments.  rose gray and ruth rogers shared a michelin star (for food- the one that matters), and they have written 6 recipe books.  April Bloomfield and celebrity chef Jamie Oliver are amongst the many successful chefs that have trained in its kitchen.  at lunch, sitting by a sunny window overlooking the river thames, i felt a connection, a sense of history to this place.  thank you ruthie for confirming what i felt in my heart.  it had a beginning.  such a luvFAB feeling to be part of your history…this just grows my heart.  sharing a history in a place and time is for thebestdressup now!
