A building has integrity just like a man. And just as seldom. ~ Ayn Rand
the CN Tower in toronto, canada, was the tallest free standing structure on earth, when it was built in 1976, and held that record until 2010. today it is the tallest free standing structure in the western hemisphere. every city has a structure that is a symbol. a symbol that gives integrity to the place, bringing honour and identity. these visible structures are revealing cultural symbols. in toronto last week, the cn tower was visible from almost every turn i took. i questioned what it represented for toronto and for canada. brought to mind the structures that represent specific places on earth, from the pyramids to the tallest building. there is much more linked to these symbols than what meets the eye. fascinating how every city has a defining structure. finding the virtue represented in these symbols is for thebestdressup now!
The symbol is greater than visible substance. . . . Unhappy the land that has no symbols, or that chooses their meaning without great care. ~ Freya Stark
