A building has integrity just like a man.  And just as seldom. ~ Ayn Rand

cn tower, toronto, canada, thebbestdressupthe CN Tower in toronto, canada, was the tallest free standing structure on earth, when it was built in 1976, and held that record until 2010.  today it is the tallest free standing structure in the western hemisphere.  every city has a structure that is a symbol.  a symbol that gives integrity to the place, bringing honour and identity.  these visible structures are revealing cultural symbols.  in toronto last week, the cn tower was visible from almost every turn i took.  i questioned what it represented for toronto and for canada.  brought to mind the structures that represent specific places on earth, from the pyramids to the tallest building.  there is much more linked to these symbols than what meets the eye.  fascinating how every city has a defining structure.  finding the virtue represented in these symbols is for thebestdressup now!

The symbol is greater than visible substance. . . . Unhappy the land that has no symbols, or that chooses their meaning without great care. ~ Freya Stark

    • ciao! the view is indeed amazing. there is something to being up high and seeing far into the horizon…similar sensation when one reaches the top of a mountain. glad you found this info as interesting as i did…this was my first visit 🙂

  4. a few years ago we were in toronto, but unhappily it was too foggy to climb this tower.

  5. ciao! i can imagine that was a disappointment. but just seeing the tower from a distance is impressive. they say that the weather can change from one moment to the other. i was fortunate to find such splendid weather…it was quite an experience being there.

  6. Great pictures. We didn’t go up. Too pricey for this retired couple. 🙂

  7. Looks very space-ish. Reminds me a little of a tower in Shanghai! I like this kind of architecture

  8. I last visited Toronto back on 2003, very nice city and the fall are not too far of a drive. The CNN Tower was nice to visit too, 1815 ft if I remember correctly overlooking the city and the lake.
