nobody’s perfect

centaur, centauro igor mitoraj, pietrasanta, italy, the best dress up

“Nobody’s perfect. We’re all just one step up from the beasts and one step down from the angels.” ~  Jeannette Walls

in pietrasanta, italy, standing in piazza del centauro, appreciating Igor Mitoraj‘s bronze sculpture, ‘il centauro’, i wondered who really commands the spear.  is it the beast that commands the spear or the man?  the centaur is defined as a creature that has a human’s upper torso and the lower body and legs of a horse.  man and beast all in one.  nobody’s perfect, but Igor Mitoraj comes close to perfectly depicting man and beast in this splendid sculpture.  giving the centaur an open head, makes me wonder if perhaps when we are reasonless we are beasts.  the beast is in us.  it unleashes.  nobody’s perfect.  must we tame the beast?  and what to do about that spear?  are we closer to angels or beasts? nobody’s perfect and somewhere between is just the best for thebestdressup now!

    A lovely picture & post! 🙂

  4. Beautiful photo and I believe that everyone has a beast within, some more dormant than others. I’ve always been fascinated with the concept of the centauro.

  5. ciao! the centaur indeed reminds of this, and yes, we are in constant struggle to tame the ‘beast’ in all of us. thanks for your comment.
