architect Asif Khan in collaboration with SWAROVSKI CRYSTAL PALACE designed an installation at DesignMiami 2012 called parhelia. parphelia, greek for besides the sun, is a series of halo rings around the sun created when light shines through ice crystals. the architectural structure, nearly 20 feet high, incorporates over 1 million swarovski crystals, and allows visitors to experience a rare arctic optical phenomenon with the same name. this installation explores the relationship between the refractive qualities of crystal, light, nature, and architecture. in the sub-tropical miami beach, where design miami was held last week, Asif Khan recreated the illusion of ice halo. this is a designed phenomenon for thebestdressup now!
