CARTIER jewels are works of art, so it is no surprise that the structure that houses their art foundation would be anything less than a gem. the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain was initiated in 1984 and moved to paris, france, in 1994, to an innovative structure that was designed by the french architect, jean nouvel, on the idea of reflection and transparency using glass and steel. in this ingenious masterpiece, the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain, showcases artists from all over the world; representing the international art scene in all ranges of artistic disciplines. i have viewed many of the exhibitions over the years and always walked away with an enriched perspective. this year’s exhibit was no exception. the italian architect and designer, Alessandro Mendini, curated the current exhibition, Histoires de voir, Show and Tell, on view until the 21 of october 2012. clare marie, our knowledgeable hostess, was most informative with details about the exhibit, and her comments heightened the visit. this exibit is a narrative that explores the works of more than 40 artists, painters, sculptors, and filmakers from around the world. i found startling, that although the artists represented come from diverse parts of the world, they do share a commonality in their creative expression. and just as interesting, to see the many links that connect the artworks; the fine line between the artisanal and the artistic parallels, which render the works in the exhibit so engaging. this exhibit reveals to the viewer a broad perspective of the artistic possibilities human beings posses, and as such, are driven to express through their craft. in this high tech part of the world, which is foreign territory to most of the artists exhibited, this was a treat. each artist recounts aspects of their lives in their artwork, and in the luvFAB structure that houses the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain, you will find their story worth viewing; show and tell for thebestdressup now!
