it was my luck to run into him in the past century, on my first visit in pietrasanta, italy. everyone i met in town, spoke so well of him. so many were in residence there, at any given time, but he was the one, the artist that everyone was taken with. although his sculptures are larger than life, i find Fernando Botero to be ever so much more. i am not necessarily making a reference about him as an artist, but as person. a renaissance man, a true gentleman in every sense of the word. i find this to be thebestdressup now! there is an innate elegance and humility to his demeanour and yet one can’t miss his creative fire. Fernando Botero turned 80 this year, and the city of pietrasanta, to celebrate him, was dressed with 6 of his undressed sculptures in piazza del duomo. there was as well, an exhibition, ‘botero-designer and sculptor’ in the museo dei bozzetti that showed sculptures, works on canvas and a series of drawings that have never been exhibited before. his birthday, and he offered the gift. a memorable exhibition. the artist and man, Fernando Botero, captures the spirit for the thebestdressup now!
at Enoteca Marcucci, a luvFAB venue of ours, Fernando Botero, designer and sculptor was celebrated. after dinner, on his way out, we exchanged a few words which reinstated my first impressions ever of him. how comforting to age so well. this was thebestdressup welcome for this summer in pietrasanta.
